CBD, we agree that it really is ‘that’ good.

Updated: Jan 27, 2023

The big letters on every athletes’ lips currently are C-B-D. Entirely natural and with claims that it reduces inflammation, relieves pain, accelerates post workout recovery, aids sleep, regulates mood and assists in weight loss it is no wonder that this is the case. So why, with all these benefits is the jury out for so many major sporting bodies?

CBD is derived from the Cannabis plant, it is the second largest group of ‘cannabinoids’ (plant make-up) found within the cannabis plant. They are entirely different THC (Phyto cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol) which is the group of cannabinoids that provide the intoxication or ‘high’. So, whilst CBD does not intoxicate users, it shares the bad name associated with ‘weed’. In fact, BetterBody Me would argue that, from this perspective it’s better than prescription medication which is addictive and does impair response time and performance.

Athletes put their bodies on the line most days; there is immense pressure and huge challenge to stay fit, healthy and injury free. As therapist's we understand injury rehabilitation and the difficulty and frustration that comes with this, so I question why we deny them what many would describe as a silver bullet, a natural option that can support them to a positive outcome? BetterBody Me promotes the use of CBD by our clients, what more we hope all the sporting bodies will soon recognise the benefits and give the athletes the pain relief that they need and that they deserve.
